I have started to notice a strong anti-professional writing attitude in the last year or so from my US colleagues, so I expect this trend will grow. I think that in general, manipulators have become so good at their trade that people have developed false intuition on how to identify it.
For example, equating well polished equates to manipulative marketing and folksy poorly written to authentic. Of course both forms are being used heavily for manipulation today.
It is a really dreadful situation. I thought the post was genuine, with the obvious motivation of the author to be successful in their new role.
- sneak 8y agoIt’s not “anti-professional-writing”, at least not in my case. It just seems like the message and focus itself has changed. It doesn’t seem like it would have been “on brand” two or three years ago. It seems to me to portend the vanilla-ification of GitHub. I could be reading too much into it, but it reads to me as corporate-ese. Not because it’s polished and well-written, but because the subject matter seems on topic for GitHub but isn’t something a GitHubber seems they would have blogged about, historically. I may be off the mark but that was my first impression.
