I installed Ubuntu on the PC of an elderly relative in mental decline who kept downloading malicious software. It's worked quite well. She just needs a browser and has no reason to use the terminal or anything.
- theandrewbailey 8y agoThat was mostly the reasoning me for me doing the same for my mom and dad. 7-8 years later, there hasn't been any bad things happening, aside from a "Microsoft support" website that wouldn't go away.
- beat 8y agoI gave my mother a Chromebook for the same reason. I'd given her a Windows machine before, and she was constantly calling because she'd click on whatever random toxic shit promised her something for free or warned her of dire consequences or whatever, so her machine was basically a cesspool. Since she got a Chromebook, I haven't had to do any tech support. Win!
