Wow, we've had very different experiences. I'm 43 and am now in management, but remained hands-on for 15 years before making the change. I never felt like a "close the tickets" guy, but perhaps that's due to a focus more on smaller startups early in my career. I don't have to worry about whether my 11 year old about going into CS, though. His plan is to be a Youtube streamer.
