AFAIK Musk can do everything a born US citizen can do except for running for presidency, right?
- rjplatte 8y ago*Being elected. He could run and get write-in votes, he just couldn't be sworn in.
- dahfizz 8y agoI kind of love the ridiculousness of the idea of someone who cannot be sworn in running anyway.
- reaperducer 8y agoLike when dead people win elections. A dead guy won a seat in the Nevada legislature this past November.
- cryptonector 8y agoEach house of Congress is the judge of its own members' qualifications and elections returns, and together they are the judge of the qualifications of the President and Vice President. In principle they could allow Musk to become President; in practice it would never happen. (It's also possible that the courts might step in and forbid some candidacy on qualification grounds, but I think that's unlikely.)
- mikeash 8y agoAlso vice presidency. They have to be eligible to be president, since most of their job is to be a hot spare.
- berbec 8y agoI'm not certain about that. Article 2 Section 1 Clause 5 lists the requirements for President but none for vice. The entirety of the executive branch requirements is one long sentance: "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States." [1] Amendment 20 Section 3 lists order of succession and specifically spells out "Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President". [2] IANAConstitutionalScholor, but I take this to mean someone who could not become president may be vice president, but would be passed over in the event of the death, resignation etc of the President. 1: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Constitution_of_the_United_States_of_America#Section_1_2 https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Constitution_of_the_United_St... 2: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Additional_amendments_to_the_United_States_Constitution#Amendment_XX https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Additional_amendments_to_the_...
