Chasing users feels like a complete waste of time. Taking down the sources (e.g. on the darkweb) and physically recovering the kids involved is surely a better use of their time, right? Ideally they'd do both, but finite resources...
- hajile 8y agoChasing users is useful because those people are high-risk to be abusing children in their lives. The government drones on and on about the dangers of "The dark web" and how we need to give up all our security (because if we don't, they can't possibly catch anyone). Instead, we find hundreds of sites so easily accessible that a standard web crawler can locate them. It wouldn't be too difficult to track down the site and monitor it to find the owner. At that point, shut down the site and squeeze the owner. Sooner or later, one of them is going to have links to producers that can be followed.
