Use free software, people! I recommend giving Godot a shot for your next project: https://godotengine.org https://godotengine.org
- calgoo 8y agoIMO there are several reasons: 1: Its very easy to use and there are A LOT of C# developers out there. 2: I suspect that because so many successful games have been made with Unity, more people are attracted. If you ask a average gamer, many can identify at least 1 or 2 games made with Unity, but most have no idea what Godot even is.
- wmil 8y agoHere's a big one: Unity is a full suite of tools for game dev, plus a marketplace, plus a community. People generally only have time to learn one development platform well. So it makes sense to use Unity.
- t0astbread 8y agoOk, in hindsight the answer to this question was obvious: It's one of the industry standards and those are pretty much needed to get a job in game dev. What I don't get is why not take the time to learn a tool that is won't betray you for your own indie projects? Sure, it takes more time than using what you already know but IMO it's worth it any day. I wouldn't wanna put my hard work at risk of being destroyed overnight by some big tech corporation. (That's just my opinion though, if you're a passionate Unity user and these concerns don't matter to you, that's fine.)
