I wanted to like this book
- minimaxir 8y agoRelevant context: Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos filed for divorce today. (that Amazon Reviewer is indeed her account; if you check the history you'll see reviews from 2001) https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/01/09/jeff-bezos-announces-divorce-mackenzie-bezos-after-years-together/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/01/09...
- gpm 8y agoFurther context: Note that the date on the review is 2013.
- matte_black 8y agoAny context on why it was posted damn near 6 years ago and no one noticed??? Edit: I guess they did

- minimaxir 8y agoFrom the number of this-is-helpfuls and comments, I assume people did notice.
- davidw 8y agoI read the comment back then because it actually got a lot of attention. Read the book too, and appreciated it shedding some light on Bezos who - especially at the time - was not nearly as well known as some other tech bigwigs like Gates and Jobs.

- minimaxir 8y agoRight, but it's the reason she is popping up in the news lately.
- todipa 8y ago“As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” What does loving exploration mean?
- matte_black 8y agoSearching deep in oneself for the love that once existed.
- pen2l 8y agoOh boy, it hurts me when you put it like that, no matter who it is who is searching for that
- baxtr 8y agoActively searching in some cases and simply waiting and hoping in other cases
- matte_black 8y agoSome will never find it, they’re all too busy looking.
- toufiqbarhamov 8y agoAnyone who has been through a bad divorce, as a spouse, child or friend of a spouse will know what it means. It’s the difference between trying to find a way to change a relationship in a way that allows for it to continue, and something acrimonious. A lot of divorces are pretty ugly, often involving infidelity, loss of interest or financial troubles. Sometimes though, people just find that they’ve (to use a popular metaphor) grown apart. Two and a half decades brings a lot of life experience and change to a person, and it can be that a couple finds they’re no longer romantically compatible even if they still love each other. I take this statement then to mean, at face value, that this is a mutual decision being made after attempts to salvage the relationship have indicated a need for change. Of course people also lie to put the best spin on things, but in this context I can only speak to the statement itself, not its veracity.
- 0898 8y agoTl;dr - This is an Amazon review of a book about Amazon, by the founder of Amazon's wife.
- warent 8y agoOff topic, but the wording of your sentence amusingly sounds like the book was written by the person that founded the wife of Amazon.
- waffle_ss 8y agoCounterpoint - "I did like this book" by an early Amazon employee https://amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3J863C5ZP53BA https://amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3J863C5ZP53BA
