The ships that this is prototyping will need to be able to land on Mars, have any needed maintenance or repairs done in-situ, and return to Earth. No clean rooms allowed. They need to be both tough and hack-able; more like an A-10 than an F-35. So even though this is obviously a fairly crude mockup, there are probably some useful operational learnings from building it in the field.
