I hate to be one of "those people" but I logged out of Facebook on all of my devices on New Year's Eve and haven't been back since. I used to check the site multiple times per day. I thought I'd miss out on a few groups but to be honest the people I know from those groups IRL keep me updated on the rare important announcement - ie a couple of upcoming events. I haven't missed it at all.
Full Disclosure: I do still have Messenger Lite on my phone, but with notifications disabled so I only check it a couple of times per day.
- RankingMember 8y agoGood for you, but it's only been 9 days mate, and leaving one of its tendrils in place makes it more likely you'll gradually get sucked back in.
- Kiro 8y agoWhat service do you use for chatting?
- chrstphrknwtn 8y agoMy telephone
- Kiro 8y agoI want a phone without voice. I hate when people call me and I never call anyone. I wouldn't want to be friends with anyone forcing me to call them to interact.
- chrstphrknwtn 8y agoYeah, I've also thought a phone without voice would be great; an iPod touch with data sort of thing. Having said that, voice calls are simply more productive for quite a few things. Making "must not interact via telephony" a condition of friendship seems a bit much. Is meeting in person also out of the question?
- Kiro 8y agoSorry, I exaggerated for effect. However, I do have a phobia of phone calls and very seldom pick up the phone so if that would be the only way to communicate with someone I'm sure the friendship would die by itself.
- chrstphrknwtn 8y agoI had an account for a few weeks in 2007. Facebook is super weird.
- djaychela 8y agoI did so about 2 years, and haven't been back other than when programming sites livestream on Facebook (which I hate!)... it is possible, and once you're away, I think life is much better, aside from being viewed as a bit of a weirdo by friends who don't share the same view on FB, and think I'm a tinfoil-hat nutter. Unfortunately I still have messenger* because that's the way all my friends and kids communicate, but if there was another platform they were all on I'd delete my FB account tomorrow. * Yes, i know what that all means in terms of 'sticking it to the man'!
- pndy 8y agoI'm just checking site via portable browser (while main one has blocked fb stuff) at the end of each month if someone from list wanted something and that's since December 2016. I don't own newest devices (Nokia 1320 with unsupported fb application) so I'm not logged anywhere else. The service evolved in such way (mainly the changes how posts are being displayed in the feed) it doesn't offer anything I couldn't live without or that would interest me.
- MadWombat 8y agoshrug, I wish I could do that. But for 99% of all my friends and family members Facebook is the social network of choice. All events are planned and organized on it, all the personal news and status changes are posted on it, most of person to person communications are using the messenger, etc. My brother has deleted his account on several occasions, but he keeps having to re-create it simply because he doesn't want to get cut off from all the family communication.
