I recently came across mdtk (https://github.com/ynohat/mdtk https://github.com/ynohat/mdtk) which renders text-based input (not asciidoc, but md) into nice documents by configurable packagers (currently revealjs & typora). Also provides option to extend md with custom logic, such as variable interpretation
