One thing I have found useful but difficult to do in both markdown and AsciiDoc: I have a block of code, and I want to highlight, say, a variable name by making it italic or bold. Or, I have several lines that have changed from one example to the next, and I want to somehow show that those lines are the ones that have been modified by some form of marker (“change bar”) or highlighting.
