Raleigh is great and is absolutely worth moving across the country for. Low cost of living, significant cultural capital, and very easy access to both the beach and mountains. It's ideally located to live in a nice house, have a great job in software, and not die of boredom. Plus there's a lot happening in tech in nearby Durham. Only complaint (and why I left) is that the region lacks good public transit. Having a car is pretty much a requirement.
