I would really like all those post on the subject to focuss on what features the Chinese ( or third world guys like me like) like.
Relatives who have baugth Huawei or Xiaomi phones have shown me that they have more interesting features than my Moto G phone or even the iPhone X of my cousin.
For example the jack port, and the fact that the Huawei phone takes better night pictures. And more importantly the Chinese brands last longer in term of power management. I have seen it with my eyes. A single charger of Huawei/Techno/Xiaomi/Samsung can work perfectly on each one of them. Fact is, it's customary in my country to by a genuine Samsung chargerso you can charge all those phones. You can't do that with the iPhone.
And the same way Chinese don't have insensitive to use Apple ecosystem since they have WeChat, we in Africa do not have any compelling reason to switch to Apple because we have more versatile mobile money. Plus the two sim card option! A must have. And since some contents are blocked in some countries, the ability to install VPN and "unregistered" apps is a must. You can't do that with the iPhone...!
So at the end, I don't see how peoples blame the economic war on the decline of Apple, but I think it's a natural evolution for Apple because now competition are coming to us showing what we can have that iPhone doesn't offer.
I've previously had the best iPhone ever: 5S.

- ksec 8y ago>You can't do that with the iPhone. I assume you can, you just need a different ( lightning ) cable. >the ability to install VPN and "unregistered" apps is a must. You can get VPN in iPhone. Not sure what unregistered apps is about. > I don't see how peoples blame the economic war on the decline of Apple As much as I want to see the decline of iPhone so Apple wake the hell up. The stats are showing Apple still gaining revenue everywhere except China. Which post a -50% YoY in iPhone Sales.
- saurik 8y agoVPN apps are not allowed in the Chinese Apple App Store.
- ksec 8y agoWell Yes, but the OP mention African without saying VPN was about China. A lot of Chinese increasingly don't use VPN to go over wall anyway, whether it is Android or iPhone.
- ninedays 8y ago`"unregistered" apps` are apps you can sideload to your device without having to go through the AppStore. In emerging countries this is definitely a huge plus for the competition. Regarding the VPN, it can be done on iPhone/iPad since iOS 3.0 or 4.0 and the dual sim option is available only on the devices releases this year (the physical dual-SIM iPhone is only available in China though). I understand more and more why some prefers not to choose an iPhone. Edit : happy iPhone X user here.
- ksec 8y ago1. And why would Unregistered Apps be a huge plus in these countries? Apart from VPN. 2. Having used E-Sim I actually think it is the future, even more so in developing countries, Physical Sim is an extra cost for management while E-Sim is a one time software cost. Dual Sim is only in China users requires Real Name another regulation which makes E-Sim much more complicated.
- joecool1029 8y ago> I've previously had the best iPhone ever: 5S. They did improve on it significantly with the SE. Especially regarding battery life. There is currently no reason for me to 'upgrade' from the SE. > since some contents are blocked in some countries, the ability to install VPN and "unregistered" apps is a must. VPN works fine, I'm using Wireguard and ipsec VPN's right now without issue. I'm waiting for court cases to make it through in the next few years regarding app store monopoly. Apple has had a stranglehold on what gets installed with their devices and a recent push to make content 'wholesome' (effectively killing platforms like Tumblr) But uh yeah you can install shitty tweaked apps on ios using stuff like Tweakbox, so it's not exactly true that you can't install "unregistered" apps.
- saurik 8y agoVPN apps are not allowed in the Chinese Apple App Store. They also require a custom entitlement that "free" Xcode developers can not apply to a program, so to the extent to which you can use signing services to subvert the protections it is a game of certificate whack-a-mole where they occasionally get yanked from your phone.
- thekid314 8y agoYou are so true, and your voices like yours are rarely heard. iPhones are made for California, and their usefulness quickly dwindles as you leave that area. It can be seen in so many things that you mentioned. 1) Dual SIMs are the only way to have a reasonable phone bill in many countries where the phone companies allow free in-network calls, but extortionate rate for numbers out of network. So the only option is buying multiple phones. 2) Charging an iPhone in Africa can be hard, try finding a USB-C cable! The world standard is still that little USB-Mini that we all hate, and it will stay that way for another decade even if USB-C is on every Macbook. 3) Charging every evening makes sense for people with 9-5 jobs in countries with stable electricity. When you hustle through long days and then power is cut you have to face that tough decision of using your phone as a flash-light or being able to receive whatsapps until power returns. The biggest rip-off in africa these days are battery packs with solar cells on them. The buyer images the salvation from all their charging problems, unfortunately they don't work well. 4) Repairing in iPhone is expensive, repairing anything else is really cheap. The repair market in the developing world is very developed. But iPhone stores aren't. 5) There isn't the iMessage or Facetime ecosystem advantage. 6) Having iCloud tied to an email address doesn't make sense for the generation that skipped email. Yes, the vast majority of the developing world never really got into email, they might have one but it is simply so they can log into Facebook and the lost the password a long time ago. I was banging my head against the wall trying to fix an iCloud account of a friend in Sudan, design decisions in California don't work there. I could mention so many more, instead I continue to lug my macbook and iphone through the developing world because I'm a glutton for punishment and like to see the look on the Genius' face when I drop it off to be cleaned.
