HP's Omen 15 is the first gaming laptop with a 240Hz display
- ddingus 8y ago240hz! I am amazed that fast matters. Modern gamers: I don't currently game, due to lack of time. Which would you prefer? Half resolution at double the rate, say 120hz, or full resolution, at the rate? Why?
- zamadatix 8y agoPersonally I prefer 4k 144 Hz HDR for most games. The only thing 240 Hz displays have going for them are the frame rate, color and resolution are typically significantly worse. At the same time I was able to get my 1080p 240 Hz G-Sync display for $350 last month while 4k 144 Hz monitors are around 2x, ones with HDR around 5x. Add in the GPUs and CPUs needed to max these kinds of monitors out in a gaming scenario and the cost difference continues to grow. For general day to day (web, email, coding, etc) 120/144 vs 240 isn't really noticeable beyond your mouse trail and the occasional page scroll having a few more frames. I mostly got the 240 Hz for avoiding frameskipping in sped up emulators. Before I saw it on sale for $350 I was thinking of getting http://www.zisworks.com/shop.html http://www.zisworks.com/shop.html since it can do 4k 120/1080 240 (and the bonus 540 480 for shits and giggles) for a reasonable price.
- ddingus 8y agoExcellent. It woukd be very interesting to program for that 480hz mode. Might just look real. I am happy at 60 plus, and over 120 rarely matters. I can tell, but do not value it much. Thanks for the interesting info!
