The crypto is not the problem, the UX is the problem. Any time there is opportunity for the user to be confused, they will be. It's ultimately the user's responsibility to make sure their comms are secure, so it's probably prudent to choose an app that presents the cleanest, least confusing path. Nobody (really) complains about PGP's crypto, but there are dozens of articles rightly criticizing its 80s-era "UX".
