I've wondered if some of the loudness wars are driven by an attempt to compensate for lossy compression? The wars haven't abated - the latest by Panic At The Disco is the loudest I've ever ripped.

- mark-r 8y agoI don't have that one so I can't compare. I certainly won't claim to have seen the worst, I can only relate a general observation that things aren't getting better.
- rplst8 8y agoThe loudness wars started way before lossy compression was widespread. That said it could be worsening it.
