I'm not a semi-regular user, but a few months ago I wrote an ed script for batch modification of some stuff that, for whatever reason (I don't recall the exact task), was really annoying to do with sed (which I normally go to for that sort of thing). ed is just one of those things I keep in the back of the toolbox that gets pulled out occasionally.
