"A developer license is $99/year, but a website is less than $120/year!"
Very weird statement.
- FiReaNG3L 8y agoLooks like a mistake, domains are $10/year
- giarc 8y agoMaybe OP meant hosting.
- fragsworth 8y agoIf you use Lambda or some other auto-scaling thing, hosting is effectively free until you get traffic.
- scottmcdot 8y agoHi there, apologies for replying to a completely irrelevant thread (HN locks down replies), but was curious if you are planning to Show HN your project [1] [1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18611208 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18611208
- giarc 8y agoHi - yes I am soon. Just got side tracked with holidays etc. I'm also in the middle of trying to find a buyer for my other side business. Flippa produces a lot of interest, not sure how many are just tire kickers though.
- scottmcdot 8y agoCool, thanks for the reply.
- scottmcdot 8y agoCan I ask what you're selling on Flippa?
- allenu 8y agoEven at $10 a year, it's a very weak statement to make about costs. If you can't afford to pay $90 more a year on something simple for your startup, you have other problems.
- dbancajas 8y agoMy thought as well. 90$ won't make or break someone's startup.
- hashkb 8y agoIf the purpose was to make a point about app stores being walled gardens, then it could have been made more effectively. Edit: and you're going to be buying at least one domain name anyway, if you have a Serious Business. The magnitude of that cost savings is insignificant compared to the cost savings realized in dev time and operational complexity. (Because you're probably building a HTTP backend, right?)
- nickm12 8y agoAlso, even if the domain registration is $10/yr, it totally neglects hosting costs. The cost of dev license versus domain registration is a ridiculous factor when deciding a product strategy for your startup (either way).
