On a similar note, is there a way to package a container into an executable for all platforms (including for macOS, Windows). Like Electron but for containers?

Like Electron but for containers?
- zozbot123 8y agoVMWare or VirtualBox image running a unikernel? I mean, the whole point of containers is that they are OS-dependent...
- voltagex_ 8y agoInteresting idea. Hyper-V is sometimes available on Windows, Hypervisor.framework on OS X, bhyve on FreeBSD and fallback to qemu if all else fails?
- marmaduke 8y agoI think only plain Qemu can run unprivileged
- voltagex_ 8y agohttps://github.com/linuxkit/linuxkit/blob/master/docs/platform-hyperv.md https://github.com/linuxkit/linuxkit/blob/master/docs/platfo... looks promising
- techntoke 8y agoAll much slower than native containers. My Docker daemon on Linux doesn't take 15 plus seconds to start and dynamically utilizes my CPUs and memory from the host.
- nwmcsween 8y agoSame with a hypervisor? A hypervisor could start as fast as a container, the only issue is having two kernels and the overhead it entails.
- techntoke 8y agoNot it can't, unless they build Docker containers into the Window and Mac kernels with the Linux subsystem.
- voltagex_ 8y agoYes, but we don't (yet) have cross platform containers
