I think the point is that if you want to optimize your child, you should reward them for making the most of what they have, rather than rewarding them for something that profoundly have no control over. Just talk to your kids, teach them what you can, explain the things that you can't teach, and tell them the truth about the things you can't explain (i.e. that you can't explain them)
