- Kaveren 8y agoI think it's more nuanced than that. If in a game, you program whether or not Enemy decides to attack based on if there's a player within 20 units of Enemy, there's nothing artificially intelligent there, it's all hardcoded. "...Kaplan and Haenlein define AI as “a system’s ability to correctly interpret external data, to learn from such data, and to use those learnings to achieve specific goals and tasks through flexible adaptation”...Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving"." [0] Much of "game AI" doesn't attempt to do this. There definitely is "real" academic AI going on in some games, it's just not as common. Even the book I link uses the AI term quite generously.
