This is a good idea, but I think to be effective would require more organization; everyone here deciding to do this the next time they fly to their random destination wouldn't likely delay any flights. If you could organize enough people to constitute 25-50% of a flight's passenger capacity, you could plan in advance to all fly to the cheapest/closest destination (so everyone is on the same flight, and no one has to spend too much). Maybe some publicity would result.
