Everyone could just link outline.com/<article> for WSJ posts
- boulos 8y agoThat’s actually sort of discouraged by the guidelines (post originals) and the FAQ [1] clarifies this a bit: > Are paywalls ok? > It's ok to post stories from sites with paywalls that have workarounds. > In comments, it's ok to ask how to read an article and to help other users do so. But please don't post complaints about paywalls. Those are off topic. Though the point of the “web” link up above is basically to perform the google search, which had historically been a whitelisted referer. The FAQ suggests though that we’ve strayed too far off topic :). And fwiw, this is an interesting position piece rather than the usual “Where’s Larry Page?” sequence of articles. - woodandsteel 8y agoThat has stopped working for me the last few days. Personally I think it ought to be against the HN rules to post a link to an article that is hidden behind a paywall. Or how about this rule: it's ok to post a link as long as you also cut and paste a copy of the whole article into the first comment.
- rdlecler1 8y agoSad that this gets downvoted because of an old HN decree that thou shall not complain about paywalls. It’s becoming a real problem and downvoting it because of an outdated rule does not address the issue.
- taohansen 8y agoHas anyone called dang's attention to this? Hacker News should be in support of a free and open web, not a gated one. Allowing such links is implicit approval.
