- rockinghigh 8y agoYes, it did. Local dialects were banned in school and at home in favor of “French” in the early 1900s. It was successful in that almost no one speaks the local dialects anymore. Unlike in Spain, for example, where the same dialects and languages survived (Basque, Catalán).
