Granted, I come from a relatively less developed country where my parents were the first generation which had gone to university and they were also the first generation in my family tree who got to live in the city. As such, they had known first-hand what manual work really was, they saw and understood that it wasn't anything glamorous and as such I in turn understand why they didn't want to put me to work, too.
