Ask HN: Do you like the Gmail web interface? Or do you just tolerate it?

I ask because when you're viewing an email the amount of screen space dedicated to the actual text of the email (which is in a tiny font btw) is minuscule compared to the amount of whitespace and other detritus in the browser window. Do we like this? Or do we dislike it but tolerate it? What is the alternative? I'm on MacOS and iOS and the interface between native email apps and Gmail is horrible (slow, no push email, etc). Chromebook and just suck it up?
