I'am not sure that you can break facebook up without very far reaching consequences for US market and economy in general.
This is half a trillion company, after all. The cascade of margin calls will remind you about bear sterns in 2008.

- nopriorarrests 8y agoAt this moment the only facebook product I use is whatsapp, which is free of ads thanks to being sponsored by instagram and facebook itself. Once whatsapp becomes an independent company, I will probably start getting personal messages from Ford, Nike and KFC. It will be a great company to invest to and make money from, I agree.

- philwelch 8y agoAnd AT&T, except after it was broken up, all the different pieces all started merging with each other again.
- e1ven 8y agoMicrosoft was worth approximately 1 trillion dollars in 1999 (adjusted for inflation). There was a plan in place to split them up, which was only scuttled because Pres. Bush won the election.
- nopriorarrests 8y ago1999 was crazy year, I do remember it. Irrational exuberance, as Greenspan put it. Try it now though, when FB is already what, 30% down from ATH.
