well the problem most often comes down to money.
if we would operate the power plants within their calculated/fixed lifespan it would've been a better world. however due to the money inside the energy markets many plants will life way above their safety standards. it happens today and it would happen with future plants.
besides the waste is not recycable
- peter_retief 8y agoIt is actually recycled :) Maybe is we spent a bit more research on recovery it could be at 100%
- ThomPete 8y agoYes, the waste is actually recyclable and will become even more so in the future. Anyone who is against nuclear simply hasn't looked at the facts. If you did and still came out against nuclear I would be pretty surprised and love to hear your arguments.
- pjc50 8y agoThe fuel is potentially recyclable. The large amount of contaminated material making up a nuclear power plant isn't.
- ThomPete 8y agoBut that contaminated material is easily stored. You are spreading false information.
- pfdietz 8y agoNuclear reactors are not economically competitive. This is the main problem with nuclear, not waste, safety, proliferation, or mind control by Greenpeace. Reprocessing doesn't reduce the cost of nuclear power, it increases it.
- ThomPete 8y agoYes it is competitive, i would challenge you to find any evidence thst solar and wind can provide energy enough for the worlds needs, otherwise you are just a victim of you own blind ideology.
- pfdietz 8y agoYour self-delusion would be sad if it weren't so hilarious. Anyone with the slightest familiarity with current market conditions and costs would know that nuclear is dead technology walking. Attempts to build new reactors in the US and Europe have failed, and failed spectacularly. They are not even close to economically competitive. Even in China, where costs are opaque, there's now a move away from new reactors. Deluded fools such as yourself confabulate conspiracy theories to explain away this reality -- Greenpeace is a common supervillain invoked here -- but that's flat-earth level nonsense.
- ThomPete 8y agoThe only flat earth nonsense here is people believing that solar or wind is actually realistically a solution to the worlds energy needs.
- JoeAltmaier 8y agoIt works in certain places. Here in Iowa we get a third of our electricity from wind.
- ThomPete 8y agoAnd in denmark they get more but its not reliable which means you have to support it with other more reliable sources such as coal. Which happens all the time. Plus you use it for almost zero percent of your transportation.
