I would hope this is an ironic statement.
- ttoinou 8y agoIt is not. Don't use Facebook or Google if you don't like it. My wild guess is decentralized network fail to capture value so you will never be able to have decentralized alternative you can use instead of Facebook or Google. My other wild guess is EU is too red taped to be able to grow good competitor to them. So good luck !
- Fnoord 8y ago> My wild guess is decentralized network fail to capture value Decentralized networks such as what? Usenet? SMTP? BGP? Facebook and Google need to adapt to our laws. Yes, they are allowed to be more restrictive than our laws (till some extend), but not less. The "just don't use Microsoft/Apple/Google/Facebook/Amazon" mantra gets old very quick. I do use Apple, but only macOS. I do use Android, but not GApps. I don't use Facebook. I use a local alternative to Amazon. I don't use Microsoft. Anyway, it is a chicken egg problem due to the network effect, and on top of that Europe could not win this even if they wanted to because the NSA does economic espionage as well which furthermore complicates the problem.
