I'm dealing with this same issue. One thing contributing to the hand-in-toilet feeling is that you go and look for tutorials, books, even documentation on Tk and how it works with any given language, and most of what you find is 10 years old or older. Nobody appears to be using the cross-platform toolkits, unless you count QT and/or GTK. It looks like Python is your only option if you want a community of any sort who is actually doing GUI development with a scripting language (Perl/Python/Ruby)
