Trust is earned and spent. If you regularly make commitments to be somewhere at some specific time and fail to meet that commitment you loose people's trust. You can't do much over the behavior of people's whose trust you've lost, so if they don't believe your flat tire story, too bad for you. How is systematically not meeting your time commitment not straigth up lying?
