I'm a fan of the default syntax offered by [RedCloth](http://whytheluckystiff.net/ruby/redcloth/ http://whytheluckystiff.net/ruby/redcloth/). It's Textile, but with bits of Markdown thrown in, such as link syntax. It's only available for Ruby, though.
