This is something I've wanted to mention for ages. A lot of modern web development seems to be about what's 'fun' for the developers rather than what works best for the company or user, and you can see it in the framework/tech obsession present in many companies and organisations. A lot of the time they don't need all React/Angular/Vue/Docker/Serverless/blockchain/whatever, they just need a simple CRUD system that lets them input content and have it shown to the user in plain HTML/CSS. But that's not 'fun', it doesn't get them respect on Twitter or at conferences (or on Hacker News) and makes it hard to hire programmers for, so hey, let's overengineer everything and pretend our blog is freaking Google.
Still, over engineering sites and products because you want work to be 'fun' isn't exactly exclusive to web developers. Quite a few game designers have similar issues in that field, and I suspect there's a bit of a clash in ideals between creators and audiences overall. It's rare you find a creator of any kind who just wants to do the same thing over and over and works solely for the money, and that's the cause behind all these issues.
