I had similar fear, in my case, stemming from the fact that I really wanted to be on the edge of so many new technologies, and I felt I am falling behind.
What helped me was to focus on things I already know and help me "Get the job done", especially if I managed to help somebody else in process :-)
I.e. I realy would like to dabble in running hadoop cluster and do large-scale data-processing. Despite the fact it has nothing to do with my current day-to-day work.
But last time I needed to process something, I managed to make do with the unix usual suspects such as cat, sed and awk and I got the result and it was fine :-)
