Looks like teachers really do need guns
- threatofrain 8y agoIMO, teachers who have guns and are interested in keeping the peace should go through a state licensing program, and have special badges (maybe brass) so we can identify them. They could be called peacekeepers.
- vernie 8y agoI like "peacekeeper" but it's lacking kick. Maybe "holeblasters"?
- SllX 8y agoWith you up until the badge bit. That would just make them the first target in an actual shooting.
- village-idiot 8y agoWoosh.
- CompanionCuuube 8y agoYeah, post pointed out a gap in public safety that is caused by only having police be armed, especially when they have no obligation to use those arms to protect your community. This should be especially obvious to the people who talk about police originating from slave patrols.
- lj3 8y agoThis already exists. It's called a concealed carry permit. Giving somebody who has no law enforcement powers a badge is a bad idea.
- chapium 8y agoNo, concealed carry has no place in a school.
- CamperBob2 8y agoTell that to the shooter.
- lj3 8y agoWhat's the alternative? Arming the kids?
- germinalphrase 8y agoAs a high school teacher and a gun owner that has competed off-and-on over the years, I vehemently disagree. The problems of my classroom mirror the problems of my community. This means that while the vast majority of my students are just wonderful young people, I also have my fair share of the chronically depressed, the trauma survivors, and the budding criminals. Are they a small minority? Of course. But why should I open the window of “what’s possible” on any given day in my classroom to include deadly force by strapping a pistol to my hip. It is - in my opinion - reckless and foolish.
- exabrial 8y ago:/ or maybe just the option. Firearms are very safe in competent hands, not so much in the opposite case.
