I'm surprised Pascal wasn't mentioned. Its syntax is very similar to Algol and Wirth was part of the Algol X development team. His (rejected) proposals were the genesis of Pascal.

(as a one time Algol68 implementer) my take on Pascal is that it's all the easy to implement bits of Algol68
