The Material Design guidelines have terrible advice. There is way too much animation (bad for accessibility), and unbelievably garish color recommendations. Google's own implementation of MD have no aesthetic restraint and they are making their products unpleasant to use. The basic idea of MD is fundamentally flawed, because UIs shouldn't simulate physical motion for accessibility reasons.
