Ask HN: Where do you go to request code reviews?
I'm not a professional developer but I'd like to:
1. Contribute to open source
2. Have someone tell me if and how my code sucks so I can improve.
3. Learn more Golang and move from basic/medium to advanced Python.
I'm having trouble with point 2. Yes, I can look at code from rockstar golang devs and read style guides but it's be so much more efficient if someone could review it and suggest improvements.
Is there a "as a service" for this? Some opensource organisation that does this for free in exchange to gathering metrics about people's code?
PS: I have a particular Go toy app I built, it's around 500 lines of code and on github.
- shivylp 8y agoUsually you can post a link to your repo here or on Reddit golang subreddit and ask for review. You will receive lot of help.
- tudelo 8y agoOne place that can be useful is https://codereview.stackexchange.com/ https://codereview.stackexchange.com/ . Of course, I think that the idea is not to post 500 lines and say "review pls", but I have seen some very thorough reviews there. It's likely you can distill a couple parts of your app down and get a decent review.
- JoshCalbet 8y agoCheck Codacy and other apps on github. They have some automatic static checks to improve code quality and security
- shujutech 8y agoIn coporate enviroment code review is mostly abuse for political reasons and useless. If there's seniors who think their coding style is better, its preferred that they provide sample codes you can follow.
