This is madness. Should you have to buy individual insurance in case your bank fails? Your city goes bankrupt? Your police department goes on strike? Regulating and maintaining institutions is the job of the government, not an expense to be passed on to private citizens.
- ataturk 8y agoFDIC and the credit union equivalent, which we pay for via taxes, so yes! Pretty much all US cities are bankrupt because of pension obligations, school districts, too. We are only in a make believe pretend world where the media refuses to report those facts, so we pretend that it isn't true, but just go look at any balance sheet and you can see pension obligations are blowing everything up. I don't care of police go on strike, they are merely the enforcers of mostly worthless government policy, not the protectors of the public, which is just another lie told by professional liars. I'm not saying I want vigilante justice, but it would be nice if actual crimes were investigated and pursued versus what actually takes place.
- skookumchuck 8y agoPeople buy insurance to mitigate financial risk all the time. There's nothing offensive about it. And a private business is fundamentally not a police department or a city government. We don't pay taxes to a private business, for example, and a private business doesn't make laws we have to follow.
