Lacking the wealth and power of Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg I’ve adopted in the last 5 years or so a policy of not discussing anything other than work at work, and nothing at all on social media under my real name (deleted all Facebook posts, except my wedding post and birth announcement post). If people at work start to discuss anything that could even ever become controversial, I leave if possible, and if not and am pressed for an opinion I just say “I’d rather not discuss this.” My use of anonymous accounts like HN and Reddit has exploded in this time, and I find myself adopting more extreme positions on left and right than previously.
