This is a cool project, and I think it can be a good addition to an existing home media server. For the use-case they describe however (wiring up an existing home stereo) it would probably be a lot easier and better supported to just buy an Airport Express. You can still buy them online for ~100, and they support Airplay2 as well, which is much nicer for multi-room audio.
