- 55555 8y agoWhy are they not just paying people the opportunity cost CPM that they would have recieved? Can I also have some free money?
- veridies 8y agoThey bought ads and those ads were displayed. If I print out $10,000 worth of yellow posters at Kinkos, I’m not off the hook for that just because it was a mistake.
- codazoda 8y agoSome publishers show ads based on the CPM that advertiser is willing to pay; that happens in almost real-time. So these yellow ads were dished out because they had a high CPM. It's probably difficult to tell what the real CPM might have been if these ads weren't in the system.
- neonnoodle 8y agoWHERE DO I BUY THIS YELLOW????????????
- PedroBatista 8y agoThey won't lose much sleep over a couple tens of millions of dollars, but I'm sure someone will lose their job.
- JustSomeNobody 8y agoI would hope not. Google should have a non-prod env for training like this.
- jpmoyn 8y agoI'm sure they do
- aiiane 8y agoAs someone that has been part of costlier incidents in the past, no. Blaming people for an accident the system allowed is generally not useful. You fix the system so that the accident isn't possible.
- PedroBatista 8y agoI've been part of that too and I agree, but Google is a massive company and gets the blame game as much as any other big corp. Also, there are many ways to "fire" some people, perhaps they'll be "moving" to another team.
- sigi45 8y agoIn Germany you would have problems firing someone over an honest and easy to make mistake.
