You could consider one of the BSDs, if you want to go to the path of MacOS. I practically found them to be objectively pleasing once the machine is set up.

- setquk 8y agoI've used FreeBSD since 2.0.5. It's what led me to MacOS X :)
- favorited 8y agoHasn't getting a compatible machine set up been one of the most difficult parts? I've never tried BSD outside of a FreeBSD VM for tinkering (though I'd like to) – has general HW compatibility improved?
- setquk 8y agoI’ve never had a problem with it myself even on mid range kit (DL580 sized)
- rhinoceraptor 8y agoIt seems to run best if you have all Intel for the CPU, networking and graphics, and your machine is at least a year or two old. I would assume Thinkpads are the best supported hardware.
- int_19h 8y agoIt works great on Thinkpad X1 Carbon gen6.
