  it looks like it's not updated automatically from anywhere though e.g. I have three albums all released via CD Baby, Bandcamp and iTunes. If I search for myself in Musicbrainz I only find the first album, and I'm guessing I probably added that myself manually and didn't think to do it for the others, years later
