Flagged! For skepticism!
- cbkeller 8y agoYour flagged post began with an allegation of bad faith against the entire field of climate science. edit: looks like it's not even flagged anymore.
- fromthestart 8y agoMy "allegation of bad faith" is a regular topic on HN, because it is plaguing most soft sciences in modern academia. Climate science is not immune - especially because of it's practical unfalsifiabity. If science is broken then it's conclusions must be treated with skepticism - even if researches are on average well meaning.
- black6 8y agoWithout another Earth-like planet to act as a control, and geologic time-scales in which to perform the experimentation, the science is bunk. Climate science must rely on models -- models which are constantly being tweaked as they continue to fail to accurately predict reality. But the groupthink here just cannot objectively look at climate science, compare it to the scientific method, and realize there may be something amiss.
- cbkeller 8y agoLet's try applying the same logic to another field. "Without another solar system to act as a control, and astronomical timescales in which to perform the experimentation, the science is bunk. Our understanding of the solar system must rely on models which are constantly being tweaked to better fit the observations (first Newtonian gravity, now special and general relativity too!)"
- jf22 8y agoThe evidence is overwhelming. There is no way to be a "rational" and "sourced" climate skeptic because all roads lead to the same conclusions. People like you will cause millions of deaths over the next 100 years.
- fromthestart 8y agoDo you understand how ironically unscientific your thinking is?
- jf22 8y agoOnly to people who assume science is only about proving something wrong rather than expanding to a better understanding.
- fromthestart 8y agoHow do you improve understanding if you've decided that something is true and forbidden any questioning of the subject? Science cannot exist without skepticism - otherwise it's just dogma.
- jf22 8y agoPlease comment in good faith and don't weasel around with wording. You know plenty of scientific discovery happens because scientists are further investigating the mechanisms of something. Nobody is studying cancer trying to prove it doesn't kill people. You don't have to be a "cancer skeptic" to further our understanding of the problems.

- lifeformed 8y ago99.9% of scientists agree about climate change. The other 0.01% are funded by oil megacorps and conservative think tanks. The politicians and the capitalists that preach against climate science are building seawalls to protect their properties and buying doomsday shelters. The US military is studying and preparing for combat in a destabilized climate-changed world. Use the pragmatic part of your thinking and just look at what people are doing, not saying. Do not listen to the emotional part of your mind that craves the feeling of smugness and contrarianism.
- pokemongoaway 8y agoYep, HN censorship is rampant. We're not even allowed to supported our censored brothers anymore when they get killed. I have lots of emails from various censored HN users trying to fight back against bang unsuccessfully. They are unwilling to listen to reason and basically lie that the comments break the rules.
