The ppi don't tell the full story with OLED vs LED, since OLED has a different sub pixel arrangement (pentile) that isn't as sharp / legible. On the other hand, OLED has better contrast. It may not be pixels that matter in this case.
- Wowfunhappy 8y agoIs this universally true for all OLED screens? I thought it was just a cost-saving measure by some manufacturers.
- Synaesthesia 8y agoPretty much. It’s also got to do with the fact that blue OLEDs are less efficient and you need more of them.
- brokenmachine 8y agoNo, that's not true. Eg https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-a9f-vs-lg-c8/684/600?usage=4854&threshold=0.1#comparison_1772 https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-a9f-vs-lg-c8/68... Rtings has close-up pictures of the layout of OLED screens. Those are TVs but I would think monitors are the same. I think only phones sometimes use pentile, probably because of the pixel density needed to fit 4k on a phone-sized screen.
