This is idiotic comment at some level, sorry to say. Any historical monument should be preserved not only because it is beautiful but because it captures history. It is the history which is not written in textbooks, it is the history which is right in front of you to see. Taj is just a building but it tells so many stories about architecture, mogul empire, passion and what not.
