There needs to be a balance between free play and structured learning, where the youngest students spend more time in free play than older students. The primary function of school is learning, and learning is often very structured time. Children need to be able to handle that type of environment.
- dorchadas 8y agoI think the issue that GP is having is that we often expect this of them too young. We expect them to come in and be quiet and sit in focus at an age when they're bursting with pent-up energy, and then diagnose the worst of them as ADHD and give them a pill. Yes, we need to teach them to handle that type of environment, as that's (sadly) how the rest of their lives will be...But I think we need to do it a lot more gradually, or even a bit later, than we currently do.
