I didn’t try to forget OOP per se, but I slowly adopted the authors guidelines regarding a data first approach. Now most of my objects are just wrappers around data, rather than analogies to real world objects. However I mostly am working on web apps so maybe this approach is more suitable to such apps. When working on desktop apps, during my initial days as a programmer, I found OOP based ui systems easy to grasp, but then this could be due to lack of experience.
