2) re: Reaction to the karmabot, I'd echo the sentiments expressed by others - I really wouldn't want to see this in a work environment. To provide some context/background - I work remotely and use Slack async. I'm always "offline," and I rarely monitor/post in channels. If I'm needed, people @me or DM me and I respond. Once or twice a day I'll quickly scan through unread messages in channels to see if there's anything I can contribute to a discussion. And then there's a few channels configured to alert me on every message, but those are mostly channels for critical alerts and stuff. (We've got regular team meetings via audio/video as well). But with this "karma" system, I'd be at a disadvantage because I don't _avidly_ use Slack and my "karma" wouldn't accurately reflect my "business productivity/performance." The numbers would be, in the best case, inaccurate and ignored, and in the worst case, detrimental to my career because my "business performance" was summed up into a single number based on how often I contribute on Slack and how popular my messages are. We already have tools to measure our "business performance," e.g. Jira, and I'd argue that they're more accurate than a system reliant on people reacting to Slack messages or rewarding coworkers with "karma".
